America's Next Top Model

America's Next Top Model is a set of the hottest reality show which the theme is about electto a top model. This show's host is the well-known model, Tyra Banks. She also served as a judge in ANTM. In every cycle, she chooses 13 girls and the girls take photo shots in each set. If they cannot take good picture, then they will be sended home. The last girl in this show will become the winner and have a huge awards. In this show, I always can know the latest information about fashion.

In all of the cycles, my favorite girl is Allison Harvard. Ilike her much because of her big and beautiful eyes and she always could take good pictures. She impressed me very much.

This is the link for our group's scavenger hunt. First, we went to the Chicago Cultural Center and we interviewed a woman in the center. She told us that she prefer pop culture,but we also had to learn some high culture. Next, we went to the Miillennium Park and took some pictures. We also interview a man, but he did not know what is the high culture. The maximum harvest in this journey was we knew how people about pop culture.

TECHNOLOGY

Now days, I think I cannot live with out computer. Computer make my life more easier. If I want to know something, I just turn on my computer and search thing that I want to know,then there will have many information about this thing. I do not have to go to the library and look for the book. I can save many time to do other works. Technology is an important part in my life now. It makes me to communicate with my family and friends more convenient. I am in America now, if I live without technology, I have to write letters to my family and friends who are still in China!

The movie review by Desson Thomson from Washington Post said: "You could stay awake till the wee hours extolling the extraordinary stunts, cinematography, production design and special effects of "Titanic". I agree with him very much. At that time, the technical like special effects was difficult to make and it was very expensive. But in order to make us feel the realistic effect, James Cameron did a lot in this aspect.

My favorite song is "love story" by Taylor Swift. This song is a love story which is about Romeo and Juliet. In this song, it change the happy ending instead of the sad ending that they both die. My favorite artist is Taylor Swift and she is a tewnty one years old now. Although she is young, she has won a lot of awards in many large music awards ceremonies. I like to listen to country music,because I think country music is very sounds and the melody is simple. Now, country music has developed to country pop music.

READING

Last week, I read an article which named "U R 2 Old" by Laura Holson in class. This article talks about the text generation gap between parents and children. There is a case in this article: now days, young people always text their friends even they are in the same space because they do not want their parents hear what they are talking about. On the other side, parents learn how to text from their children because they want more closer to them. I think that's why children have generation gap with their parents. I agree with the author's opinion: we should talk to our parents. The relationship between children and parents not just parent-child relationship, but also a relationship which just like friends.

CULTURAL IDENTITY

This is the poster that I did for this class. In this picture, you can see a huge Chinese national flag. You also can see some pictures on the flag-- Chinese character, Traditional festivals, Peking Opera, Chinese Kungfu and Chinese Architecture. All of these are the characteristics of Chinese culture.

POP CULTURE

Pop Culture is a part of people's lives. I am in contact with pop culture every day, for example, I can see the advertisings when I watch TV or walk in the streets. I also like buying some magazines to read because I want to know what are the new products. I remember one time I saw a dress in a magazine and I like it very much, then I decided to buy it from the website. In addiction, I think I can get pleasure from pop culture. I can reduce stress when I listen to music or when I feel boring, I can use the computer and watch a movie. Since I have been in the US, I have changed my life style in here. I knew in the US, many people who are the same age as me have a part time job. Now I have a job to do, and at the same time I need to go to school.

Since taking this class, I have knew that America is a "Melting pot" because various immigrant and ethnic groups move to America, then many different cultures merge together. However, with the development of society, people prefer using "Salad bowl" instead of "Melting pot". People think different cultures can mix together, at the same time, people of different nationalities should maintain their own cultural characteristics. We need to respect different cultures.
